I have a confession to make! I love clouds! All are beautiful and fascinating! Sometimes I’ll stare at the sky and those fluffy giants will look like they’re reaching out to get me. Other times those I’ll want to tag tail and run like I’m in a scene from Twister. With the big Texas skies, I see a vast canvas every day.Our thoughts can be thought of as clouds. We have those cotton candy thought clouds that roll in when we think of the good things or even when we’re thinking about food.
(Or maybe that’s just me thinking). I tend to always to thinking in cotton candy. Or about cotton candy… yuuuummm… oh… Oops. Where was I? Oh yeah!
Other times our thoughts can be like the ugly storms that cause everyone in its path to head for cover.
The thoughts of fear or intimidation can tear apart everything in its path. Thoughts of regret can transform a beautiful meadow into the fiercest deserts. Angry thoughts can tear apart even the strongest relationships. Thoughts of lust can ruin the life of a beautiful daughter or son. In truth, our thoughts are more powerful than what most of us even realize.
I guess that’s why Paul said, whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, and lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. (Phil.4.8)
And yet my mind tends to wander into the dark places. Storms would tear up my brain if I would let it… and there have been times when f4 tornadoes have blazed through the recesses of my mind and all I could do would be to take cover. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
What am I saying?
In short: We have a choice as to what the weather forecasts are going to be in our mind.
I say there needs to be more cotton candy. Yes?
